When you get the chance to design your office, you want to take full advantage of it. After all, this is a unique opportunity. While some people dread going to the office, it might just be because they don’t have the right office layout.
There is an old expression out there: When you look good, you feel good. The same applies to your office. If you have an office that brings out your sense of individuality and fun, you might start to look at work in a whole new light. If you follow these five tips for designing an office layout, you will have an office that feels like home.
1) Make Your Office Yours
Even though you work at an office, it doesn’t mean you can’t show off all of the things that you love and care about when you are away from work. If you have a family, you might want to put up some pictures of your kids and your partner. This way, when you are at work, you will smile because photos of the people you love will surround you. It also applies to things you enjoy in pop culture as well. If you enjoy Harry Potter, for example, it’s never a bad idea to show off some of your Harry Potter collection at your office. It gives you a sense of identity in your office, as you are standing out as your own person.
2) Keep It Clean
If you have an office space that is too cluttered, it won’t allow you to get your work done. You will feel as though you are stuck in a space that is not allowing you to get your work done. You will start to fall behind on work and lose your important papers and files. It also looks bad to your boss as well, if they notice you have a messy office. If you tidy up now and again, it will totally change the way you approach the workday.
3) Utilize Your Space
Once you know how much space you have to work with, it is important to make sure that you are utilizing it. You want to make every inch and every square foot of your office count. If there is a lot of space in your office, use it! Don’t let it go to waste or fall by the wayside. After all, you have an office for a reason, and you want to show the people you work with that you know how to make your workspace run smoothly.
4) Throw Things Away
If you have papers from years ago that have not been used in ages, it is always a good idea to throw them away. It’s a great feeling to get rid of things that are just taking up space.
5) Visualize Your Dream Office
When your head hits the pillow at night, how do you envision your office? You have to take that visualization and bring it into the office when you are setting up your layout.
